Overview
Database Direct is a comprehensive tool through which you can perform UCC searches in Minnesota and retrieve copies
UCC images for both Minnesota and Wisconsin. We receive weekly data and image updates from the Secretary of State
Minnesota and monthly image CDs from Wisconsin, load them into our database and apply expanded search logic to offer
our clients the broadest search results possible.
Enhanced Search Features of Database Direct
-
Color Coding:
-
Debtor/Secured Party names appear in maroon
-
Individual Debtor/Secured Party names appear in black and italicized
as indexed by the Secretary of State Minnesota.
-
Teal highlighting indicates the presence of an
additional debtor on a UCC already reported on the results.
-
Business Name Equivalents Added to Database Direct: The system searches for
equivalent words in the Debtor Name, based on our 200 Business Word Equivalent List,
then searches all common name variations based on the order that the words appear.
(Example: If <FIRST NATIONAL BANK> is entered, the system will also search
<1ST NAT BANK>, <1ST NAT BK>, <1ST NAT BNK>, <1ST NATIONAL
BANK>, <1ST NATIONAL BK>, <1ST NATIONAL BNK>, <1ST NATL
BANK>, <1ST NATL BK>, <1ST NATL BNK>, <FIRST NAT BANK>,
<FIRST NAT BK>, <FIRST NAT BNK>, <FIRST NATIONAL BK>,
<FIRST NATIONAL BNK>, <FIRST NATL BANK>, <FIRST NATL BK>,
<FIRST NATL BNK>.)
-
Database Direct Contains Expanded First Name Equivalents: The system searches for
equivalent names in the Debtor First Name, based on our Name Equivalent List, then
searches all common name variations.
(Example: If the first name <BILL> is entered, the system
will also search <BILLIE>, <BILLY>, <WILBER>,
<WILFRED>, <WILL>, <WILLIAM>, <WILLIE>, <WILLY>,
<WM>.)
-
Terminated UCCs: Since 07/01/2001, terminations are treated like any other UCC-3.
Filing a termination does not make the UCC void. The UCC will remain "active" in status,
if not continued, until the natural lapse date.
Search Logic Tips
-
Punctuation, Spaces and Case-Sensitivity: Database Direct disregards all of these items.
-
"AND" vs "&": The word "AND" and the symbol "&" are treated equally.
(Example: Searching <A AND H FUEL> or <A & H FUEL> will
yield the same search results.)
CAUTION: Do not end a search with "and" or it will not check "&"
-
Names Beginning with "THE": Database Direct drops "the" when it is the first word in a business name.
(Example: Searching <THE ALLIANCE> or
<ALLIANCE> will yield the same search results.)
-
Corporate Endings: Do not include corporate endings when performing a search.
(i.e. Corporation, Inc., LLC, et cetera)
-
Searching Individual Names:
-
First Name Field: Please refer to the Individual First Name Equivalent List
before conducting your search, especially in regard to those names with common
variations that begin with different letters, i.e. Richard/Dick, William/Bill,
Margaret/Peggy, and Elisabeth/Beth.
-
Put in the entire name or nickname (this is the only option that results
in the first name equivalent findings)
-
Leave the field blank
-
Last Name Field:
Because Database Direct utilizies a single combined field for both business and last name fields,
your placement of the last name does not have to be exact. Utilize the "less is
more" rule. For example placing "Hoffman" will also reveal "Hoffmann".
-
Maximum Result Count:
There is a maximum limit of one-thousand (1,000) filings returned per search.
If this limit is reached, it is recommended that users refine their search.
